I’m pleased to provide a further update on the progress of
the 4th green. We have now received laboratory test results confirming
there is no residual pesticide present within the green profile. This is
the best possible news we could have received, as it means we can proceed with
recovery works without concern of ongoing damage or further turf loss. With this confidence, we have commenced seeding the green.
Many of you may have already noticed early signs of recovery, which is
extremely encouraging. While this is a major step forward, as shown in the
attached photos we still have a way to go before the surface is fully restored. Over the coming weeks, we will continue with additional
seeding and will also begin plugging from the edges of the bentgrass collar.
This, along with routine topdressing, will help accelerate coverage and improve
the quality and consistency of the playing surface. I understand everyone is eager to see the hole back in play
in its entirety, and I share that same frustration. However, I ask for a little
more patience while we allow the turf to properly establish. When the 4th green
returns, it will be to a standard members have not yet experienced, and the end
result will be well worth the wait. In addition to the work required on the green itself, we
will continue encouraging establishment of all new couch areas, seeded areas,
and bracken transplants. In the background, we are also progressing preparation
works behind the 4th green and to the left of the 5th tee in readiness for
native vegetation planting. Once established, this entire complex will be
something the club can be genuinely proud of and will significantly enhance the
presentation and playing experience of this part of the course. The left-hand greenside bunker will also be completed once
we are no longer required to run excessive irrigation on the new turf.
Completing the bunker before this stage would only lead to unnecessary rework
and compromise the finished product.
Thank you again for your continued support.
