Dear Member,

Following on from our previous communication regarding the 4th green, I’d like to provide a further update and clarify the nature of the damage that has occurred.

As outlined previously, the 4th green has sustained significant damage. An individual entered the course with a backpack sprayer and applied a substance that has killed a majority of the green surface. Since that time, we have undertaken initial germination testing and are seeing encouraging early signs, which is a positive step forward. We are still awaiting formal laboratory results from STRI. These tests are complex and will be critical in confirming the most appropriate and reliable path forward.

Indicative Timeline

At this stage, it is difficult to provide a precise return-to-play date due to a number of variables. These include confirming exactly what was applied, understanding any residual effect over time, and ensuring we can rebuild a stable growing surface that will establish reliably.

Our intent is to return the green to play as soon as conditions allow. In a worst-case scenario, the required approach would be to re-establish the surface leading into winter and then rest it until bentgrass is actively growing again in August/September (weather dependent). We will provide clearer, more definitive timeframes once STRI results are received and the recovery method is confirmed.

In the interim, our priority is to ensure all achievable works are completed and in play for the Club Championships. We are planning to have the 4th tee, 5th tee, and the 4th approach bunker back in play, and we will establish a high-quality couch temporary green in the fairway to provide the best possible playing surface while recovery work continues.

Police are actively reviewing CCTV from the club and neighbouring properties, and the matter has progressed significantly. We are confident the investigation is well advanced and we expect an outcome in the near term.

I also want to acknowledge how disappointing this has been for members. Myself and the team are just as devastated as I would expect you to be. Thank you for the support that has been shown—it’s genuinely appreciated. Moments like these are defining in our success, not our failure, and we remain fully committed to restoring the 4th green and presenting the course to the standard you expect.

Kindest regards,

Andrew Anderson
